Justin Sullivan is freelance pageantry designer who provides program coordination, drill, staging, and choreography for marching bands and color guards around the country.
A native of the sunshine state, Justin was born and raised in Gainesville, FL. Justin’s love for band began in middle school when he picked up a euphonium for the first time. By the time he got to high school, Justin was playing three instruments and secretly dabbling with his sister’s color guard equipment when she wasn’t looking. Justin joined the winter guard his junior year and also served as drum major his senior year.
After high school Justin attended Florida State College in Jacksonville, FL for Music Education while nurturing a love of color guard performance. Justin performed with Spirit of Atlanta and The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. During the winter months Justin was a cast member with River City Independent and Northeast Independent World Guard.
Justin began teaching and designing almost immediately out of high school. He served as the director of the Santa Fe HS color guard and the assistant director of color guards at Allen D. Nease HS. The color guards at Santa Fe and Nease earned numerous awards. The Nease HS guards earned finalist positions at WGI world championships in each class of competition; A, Open, and World, including a bronze medal in Scholastic Open.
Justin moved to Austin, TX in 2013 as an assistant color guard director at Round Rock HS. Round Rock was a multi-time BOA Grand National Finalist and a multi-time WGI Scholastic Open finalist from 2013-2018.
From 2014-2019 Justin was the Color Guard Director and Artistic Director for the Cedar Park Timberwolf Band. During his tenure at Cedar Park the marching band earned back-to-back UIL 5A State Championships and a finalist appearance at the BOA Grand Nationals in 2016 (5th.) Under his direction the winter guards earned one championship from the Texas Color Guard Circuit and advanced from the Scholastic A to the Scholastic Open Class.
In 2019, Justin moved to Dallas, TX and began as the Color Guard Director at Hebron HS. Hebron earned a bronze medal at the BOA Grand National Championships that year. In 2020, Justin began designing for the Hebron HS band as program coordinator. In 2021, Hebron earned their first UIL 6A State Championship and in 2022, earned the UIL 6A Silver Medal. Hebron is currently the back-to-back BOA San Antonio Super Regional Champion 2021 & 2022. Hebron returned to the BOA Grand Nationals in 2023 and again earned the bronze medal. In 2024 the Hebron was named the Texas UIL 6A State Champion!
Justin was on the faculty of the World Class Finalist Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps from 2011-2013. In 2015 he was a choreographer for the Phantom Regiment. Justin was a co-director of River City Independent Guard from 2010-2013 and was a choreographer with WGI Independent Open finalist Origins in 2018.
In 2022 Justin retired from teaching full time in order to focus on freelance design projects across the country.
Justin currently resides in Paris, France with his partner Yoann.
